Alumi Craft racer Brock Heger was back on top of the podium at the final race of the season; SNORE’s Rage at the River in Laughlin, Nevada. Only weeks before, Heger had clinched another class 10 championship for Alumi Craft in the Best In The Desert series. In his first ever season racing in the desert, Heger won 4 of the 6 races in the BITD series, and took the rookie of the year title. Winning Rage at the River was just a bonus on a stellar season for Heger.
Rage at the River is known for the tough conditions that develop during the race. The shifting sands create big holes and power robbing berms that suck the car in if you get just a couple inches off the preferred line. Run as a heat race format, the lowest elapsed time from two days of racing determines the winners. After a full day of racing, the holes and ruts get very deep. To make the race even more challenging, the course is run backwards on the second day. That makes all the bumps square-edged. When running against the grain on day two, it’s like the shredding stroke across a cheese grater. The winner on day one can get shredded on day two and end up dropping several positions. Despite the track conditions, and the competition, Heger ran the fastest time on both days.
Second place at Rage was another young racing phenom; Alumi Craft racer Broc Dickerson. He ran the second fastest time on both days. Dickerson also had an amazing first season racing in the desert. He won the first three races of the year in the 2017 SCORE World Desert Championship. He went on to win the SCORE class 10 points championship, the overall buggy points championship, and is a leading contender for the SCORE, rookie of the year award.
Official results for Rage at the River are not yet available but these two Alumi Craft racers were clearly out in front of the competition on both days. In fact, Alumi Craft racers were out front all year long. Alumi Craft racers won in Crandon Wisconsin, the birthplace of short course racing, at the 50th anniversary Baja 1000, in the deserts of Australia, and at tracks all over the country. Alumi Craft racers won in every premiere offroad racing series where their cars compete. They won the Crandon International World Championship, Championships in the MORR series, Lucas Oil Off Road Racing Series, The SCORE International series, and the Best In The Desert series.
Heger and Dickerson were simply too strong for the competition at Rage at the River.
