Alumi Craft Pro Buggies Own The Top Of The Box At Lucas Oil Off Road Glen Helen
October 1, 2018
San Bernardino, CA
Alumi Craft Pro Buggy Drivers; Darren Hardesty Jr. and Eliott Watson raced to the top two spots of the box in Rounds 9 & 10 of the Lucas Oil Off Road Racing Series (LOORRS). Hardesty won both races back-to-back in the #99 Bilstein / Alumi Craft while Watson finished in 2nd place both days in the #3 TWI / Alumi Craft. The late summer race weekend featured a large Southern California crowd and was hosted under the lights at famed Glen Helen Raceway in San Bernardino.
Friday night kicked off the weekend of short course off road racing, and the Pro Buggy race one of the early events scheduled. Eliott had qualified 2nd behind Bud Ward, .067 seconds off the pace. Hardesty was right behind nearly within the same margin. Ward is also third in points, so it was the big dogs in the class up on the front rows. At the green flag start, Watson got out front and Hardesty chased behind. The two Alumi Craft buggies performed what could be described as a synchronized ballet for all of 14 laps. On Lap 9, Darren took tapped in to lead the dance and went onto win the race. Watson took 2nd and actually matched Hardesty’s quickest lap for the Optima Fast Lap Award. Talk about being synced up!
“It was like a two car tango out there,” Eliott commented. “I love good clean side by side racing. It is always a blast especially with my bud Darren.”
Round 10 on Saturday Night, brought even larger crowds and they were rewarded with lightning fast racing. Once again the Pro Buggy division was dominated by Alumi Craft Race Cars and, you guessed it, Darren “Hot Sauce” Hardesty Jr. and Eliott Watson. The buggy racing duo qualified 1st and 2nd with Watson again scoring the quicker lap time. With another front row start, the #99 raced toe-to-toe against the #3. Hardesty led every lap and Watson challenged at every corner. Each Alumi Craft buggy ran flawlessly performing a high speed dance around the .8 mile off road short course. Hardesty took the win once again with Watson finished in 2nd place and claiming the Optima Fast Lap Award.
“What an awesome weekend for the #99 Bilstein Alumi Craft,” declared Darren. “Lots of hard work & effort from the team paid off with another weekend sweep. I cannot wait to do it again at Wild Horse Pass Motorsports Park.”
Watson was even more animated as he really made Hardesty work hard for this one. “We had a super fast Alumi Craft all weekend and lots of intense battles that were tons of fun. I just came up a bit short and ended up with a pair of 2nd place finishes and a fast lap trophy! I have to give a huge shout out to Bench Mark Performance and Steve Downing for all of the tuning help. It has been a huge game changer for us. Thanks to everyone who makes this possible and we’ll be more than ready to take on one more points race this year and the Challenge Cup!
These two Alumi Craft Racers are leading the 2018 Pro Buggy Points Championship with Hardesty’s six wins leading over Watson and his two wins. There is now only 13 points separating them with one round of racing left. It is clear these two are pushing themselves and with such close racing, they are also pushing each other to be better drivers at the same time. Alumi Craft Race Cars will continue to be a competing factor in the 2018 Lucas Oil Off Road Racing Series Pro Buggy Championship.
