Alumi Craft racer Michael Meister held onto his points lead going into the final rounds of the MORR/TORC series Super Buggy Championship to take the crown. Meister grabbed 9 wins this season on his way to the championship title. To win a championship, in what Meister admits is a learning year, is impressive. He beat many more experienced racers and past champions along the way; including his mentor, Mark Steinhardt, who finished second.
“Winning the championship made all the hard work we put in worth it,” said Meister, “I have to thank my sponsors and my crew; my Dad, my best friend Brad, my Girlfriend Katlynn, and her Uncle Mark who helped us sort out the car when we first got it. It was so fun having Luke Johnson in my ear for the final races, he kept me pushing hard the whole way.”
Luke Johnson won the Super Buggy Championship driving an Alumi Craft in 2013, and took the TORC Pro-2 championship this season. He walked off the Pro-2 podium and went directly to spot for Meister in the final race. “As we went around the first turn, I heard Luke come on the radio and say I’m here Michael,” Meister continued, “The fact that he was willing to invest in my success inspired me. We are very happy to finish on top this season and are already planning for 2018. We took 9 wins this season but we have to be even more consistent if we are going to repeat in 2018. Our Alumi Craft is perfect so I don’t see making any changes but we still have some tricks up our sleeves. We are going to come back swinging.”
Some have asked Meister if he plans to move to another class next season but he is learning so much and having so much fun he intends to stick around. “Driving a Super Buggy is challenging,” Meister continued, “Shifting, braking, and working the cutting brake, you don’t get any more challenging than that. I don’t think I could get any better experience anywhere. I’ve learned that my Alumi Craft is strong, and that I just need to be patient and set-up my competition. I can make a pass without bashing. I would rather race everyone clean. You still have to throw the car into the corners and push hard, but I try to be smooth and technical. My Alumi Craft allows me to feel very comfortable, even when I’m going 90 MPH at Crandon!”
Michael Meister proves that when you drive an Alumi Craft, the sky’s the limit. He won the 2017 Super Buggy Championship and still has more speed on tap.
