Alumi Craft Racers Battle Each Other For Wins In Lucas Oil Short Course Series

Alumi Craft Racers Battle Each Other For Wins In Lucas Oil Short Course Series

    Chandler, AZ

After weather forced the cancellation of the first event of 2017 in the Lucas Oil Off Road Racing Series, competitors were anxious to get on the track when racing resumed at Wild Horse Pass Motorsports Park in Chandler, Arizona. After two rounds of racing, it was apparent that the dominating performance shown by Alumi Craft racers last season was still going strong. Alumi Craft Pro Buggy racers took the first two spots and 4 out of 5 in the top five on both days of racing. Defending champion Darren Hardesty Jr. showed amazing consistency by finishing in second place both days, but his performance was eclipsed by fellow Alumi Craft racer Elliot Watson who qualified 1st both days and took back to back wins.

In fact, Alumi Craft cars dominated all weekend with strong finishes from Kyle Aarup who finished 3rd on Saturday, Sterling Cling with a 5th and 4th place finish, and Broc Dickerson who took 5th place on Sunday.

“During practice on Friday, the track was rutted and loose,” said Watson, “I didn’t feel comfortable in the car at first. By the time qualifying started, we were dialed in. I had a tough battle with Hardesty and Cling but we weren’t going to let the wins slip away. It’s going to be a tough season with those guys, every podium counts. I have a lot of confidence in my Alumi Craft car, FOX Shocks, and BFGoodrich Tires. You have to trust the car when you are pushing so hard. After each race we check everything over but most of the time we just have to clean it up and it’s ready to go.”

“We are happy to get on the podium with a pair of 2nd’s but we would rather win,” said Hardesty, “We made some subtle changes in the off season to increase our speed in the corners. I was going to run my own race but when Cling tried to dive under me I had to protect my position. I went to the inside and Watson went around me on the outside. We are really looking forward to the next race in Mexico. It’s not an easy track but we are up for the challenge.”
