Triple Weekend Sweep For Alumi Craft Racer Eliott Watson In Missouri
August 26, 2020
Alumi Craft Racer and 2019 Pro Buggy Champion Eliott Watson experienced one of his young career’s most significant racing accomplishments at the Lucas Oil Off Road Shootout in Wheatland, Missouri. Watson captured the points lead with a dominating performance and weekend sweep winning three races, three top qualifiers, and three fast lap awards. Eliott had the perfect weekend in the #1 Alumi Craft Pro Buggy.
The Lucas Oil Off Road Racing Series (LOORRS) hosted the first-ever tripleheader weekend with three rounds of short course off road racing at Lucas Oil Speedway in Wheatland, Missouri. The state-of-the-art motorsports venue features the longest short course track in the series filled with high-speed straight-a-ways, big air launchpad jumps, long sweeping corners and even an over-under bridge. Alumi Craft Racers led the competition, not only capturing the wins but also multiple podiums with Trey Gibbs finishing in 2nd place on Friday & Saturday and Darren Hardesty placing 3rd on Sunday.
Watson’s mission going into the weekend was to stay conservative and aim to put points on the board to compete for the 2020 Pro Buggy Championship. The #1 plate carries a lot of weight and to back up a championship with another would be a massive accolade for Eliott.
“This past weekend was wild, to say the least,” Watson explained. “We came into it knowing that we had the potential to be competitive at Lucas Oil Speedway after winning a few races here in the past. After leaving Glen Helen tight in the points race, we knew we had to come here and aim for the podium in all three days of racing. Since this was the first-ever Triple Header that the Lucas Oil series has ever had, we had planned to play it conservative all weekend and save the car for the points battle.”
Eliott made good on the goal to put points up and scored 15 additional for his fastest laps during all the weekend’s Qualifying sessions. “Crazy that we have been the Top Qualifier all three race days here in Wheatland. We got an awesome car put together for this weekend with Roy Valenzuela and Scott Prill putting all of the super speed secrets on her. I’m pumped on the Alumi Craft set up and we got our FOX Shocks dialed!”
Watson continued about what it took to win the first race of the weekend, “In Friday’s Round 3, we had such an intense battle with our Alumi Craft teammates; Trey Gibbs and Darren Hardesty, all of us swapping positions several times the first half of the race. With two laps to go, we got creative with line choices and found a spot to jump from 3rd to 1st in the same corner. Gibbs and Hardesty kept us honest, but we were able to squeeze out a big win for Round 3 and earned the Optima Batteries Fast Lap Award on top of it.”
That victory put Eliott and the #1 Alumi Craft in the Pro Buggy points lead and set the bar for the weekend. “From there, we carried momentum all the way through and were able to be the first team ever to sweep a Lucas Oil Series triple header! Thank you to everyone who made this possible, we had a perfect weekend with our Alumi Craft.”
